Advance knowledge of rockfall and debris flood hazards on high slopes and their relation with meteorological conditions.
The specific objectives to achieve the first objective 1 are:
Objective 1a: Automatic identification of the potentially unstable rockfall source areas. The aim is to create a methodology that automatically identifies the position of the possible rockfall source areas using available information with the help of artificial intelligence to automate the process, which can be applied to long linear infrastructures, where it cannot be carried out based on geomechanical studies. We want to study and check the possibilities and efficiency of thermographic techniques to identify potential source areas to large regions that currently are impossible to know with any other technique.
Objective 1b: Characterization of the available sediment transportation in debris flood events. One of the questions to be solved related to debris floods, corresponds to the knowledge of the material available in the torrent bed, which could be mobilized in the event of a triggering rainfall. This is one of the essential parameters in the modelling of this project, which has not been considered so far.
Objective 1c: Eventually, we want to study whether meteorological conditions trigger rockfalls, and what is the rainfall threshold that triggers the debris flood for each volume of available material.
